Teanna Jeffery
Meet Teanna Jeffrey Many people spend years appearing strong, capable, and resilient while quietly carrying the effects of trauma, grief, chronic stress, difficult relationships, or painful life experiences. Therapy can provide an opportunity to better understand these experiences, reconnect with your strengths, and move toward meaningful change. Teanna is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) while practising under clinical supervision. She believes that healing is rarely about forgetting difficult experiences. More often, it involves making sense of them, reducing their impact, and learning how to move forward without carrying them alone. Many of the challenges people face are rooted not in weakness, but in the ways they have learned to survive difficult experiences. Before becoming a therapist, Teanna served for more than a decade as a police officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Throughout her career, she worked closely with individuals and families affected by trauma, sexual violence, domestic violence, suicide, sudden loss, and other deeply challenging life experiences. These experiences provided a unique understanding of trauma, resilience, grief, human behaviour, and the lasting impact difficult experiences can have on individuals, families, and communities. Having worked in environments where exposure to trauma, crisis, loss, and adversity was a regular part of the job, Teanna understands the unique pressures faced by RCMP members, military personnel, veterans, healthcare professionals, and others working in demanding roles. She also recognizes how easy it can be to become the person everyone relies on while quietly struggling yourself.
Teanna works with adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, self- esteem concerns, and significant life transitions. She has a particular interest in supporting
individuals navigating emotional/physical abuse, high-conflict relationships, difficult family dynamics, separation, and co-parenting challenges. She also enjoys supporting couples who are looking to strengthen communication, navigate conflict more effectively, and rebuild connection, as well as young adults navigating identity, relationships, and major life transitions. Clients often come to therapy carrying experiences they have never fully had the opportunity to process. Teanna strives to create a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where
people feel safe discussing what matters most. Her approach is collaborative and trauma- informed, balancing compassion with honest, thoughtful reflection while helping clients recognize
patterns, build on their strengths, and move toward meaningful change. Whether you are healing from trauma, grieving a loss, navigating a difficult relationship, or simply feeling stuck, Teanna believes meaningful change is possible. Her goal is to help clients move beyond survival mode and build a life that feels more connected, authentic, and fulfilling.

Meet Michael, with over 25 years of dedicated experience in the mental health field, Michael has established himself as a prominent figure in adolescent and adult mental health, specializing in sex therapy, and addressing sexual dysfunctions and gender identity concerns. He also has extensive experience in mood and anxiety disorders in both adults and adolescents. His compassionate approach, combined with an extensive background in workplace mental health, empowers individuals and organizations to achieve psychological well-being.
Michael:
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My journey in the field of mental health began back in 1998, and ever since, I’ve been deeply committed to supporting individuals on their unique paths to healing and growth. At MindSpa, I believe in the power of personalized therapy, and I work collaboratively with each client to create a welcoming space that caters to your individual needs.
Throughout my career, I’ve focused on supporting adults and adolescents, survivors of trauma, and people affected by mood disorders, especially depression and chronic depression. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba and a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Winnipeg. I’m continually pursuing professional development to ensure I provide the best possible support for my clients. My further postgraduate studies in sex therapy and sexuality grew out of an interest in a subject that remains misunderstood, despite the enormous role it plays in our lives and the many social changes in our views on the subject.
I’m also humbled to have received a Ministerial Commendation from Veterans Affairs Canada for my work with veterans, which has deepened my commitment to integrity, respect, and making meaningful contributions to the lives of those I serve. If you’re looking for a caring guide on your journey toward a brighter, healthier future, I would be honored to accompany you. Remember, you don’t have to face this alone—we can explore these paths together.

I may be different from what you expect to see in a therapist. I stutter, I lose my train of thought and sometimes need to be reminded to speak up. I am imperfect, and this is what makes me so well equipped to support you. I’ve walked on my own convoluted path to get to where I am. While our paths may look much different from one another’s, I utilize the wisdom from my life experiences, time in sports, research and training, and my experiences of being the client in the therapy room to ensure that I come to session with the ability to support you through the ups and downs of life.
Our journeys in life will be different, and I bring my lived experience to help me to support you on your journey. Whether you want to work toward excellent in sport, re dealing with an injury, are feeling stuck, feel like you’re unsure of where to go, or are being pulled in multiple different directions. Admittedly, I won’t always have the answers, but my training, education, and drive to learn make me well equipped to collaborate with you to find the answer you are looking for.
So if you find yourself needing authentic, real, and relaxed support for understanding ADHD, dealing with the loss of a loved one, with a major life transition like recovering, with depression, navigating gender-based violence, or dealing from a sports injury or retiring, I am happy to help you navigate the complex twists and turns that life has to offer us.
I will be honest and say that therapy is scary, I should know! So, I strive to break down barriers and stigma associated with therapy. Specifically, I want to remind you that therapy is a place free from judgment, where you can be fully yourself, whether that means cursing, laughing, or crying when you otherwise couldn’t. I take the time to work with you and find the best approach to support you, whether I guide us through our work or help you to take charge. My hopes are for you to be capable of moving forward on your own. So, I hope that in working with me you can learn to appreciate and be fully yourself, because I know that you are a human just like me.
Specializations & Areas of Interest:
ADHD
Whether you have a diagnosis of ADHD or are curious, I have spent most of my career working with and supporting people to better understand the ways they think and problem solve. I believe that ADHD is not a weakness, rather it is a strength that can be leveraged to achieve your goals. Together we can explore how to make use of your strengths and skills, while also developing an understanding of you.
Sports & Setbacks
I know what it is like to suffer setbacks, injuries, and to leave your passion earlier than you wanted. So regardless of what you may face, I will bring my own lived experience and education to help you navigate the uncertainties that sports never prepare you well enough for.
Depression
Struggling with depression can be exhausting because you can feel stuck and alone. I’m sure you’ve heard people say that it will get better with time, I won’t share these platitudes, but I will remind you that you don’t have to be alone. We can work together, making use of my education and your own experiences to understand the complex and draining feelings you may be stuck in or wading through.
Grief
Grief is one of the most terrible experiences we can go through, and I am sure that I could never encapsulate the immense feelings of pain and loss you are suffering. Yet I would love to be a part of your journey in whatever shape that takes. I will walk alongside you and remind you that grief is non-linear and does not adhere to the five stages we are commonly taught, while also helping you to set boundaries and focus on what you need most at any given time.
Intimate-partner violence
There is so much stigma surrounding intimate-partner violence—especially for male presenting victims. It is for this reason that I will always hold space, advocate, and remind you of the power you have as you move forward.
Professional Experience
Like many my own professional journey in mental health began as a personal journey, where I received support for my own challenges, where I was able to take what I had learned and apply it to my passion for supporting others. I have spent most of my education researching how to support individuals struggling with technology, gaming, screen-time, and social media concerns. When I began my Masters I started to research and learn about how to best support students as they transition to university, emphasizing the importance of building upon social support.
I was then able to take all my experience and knowledge and apply it to my practicum at the From Intention to Action (FITA) program at Carleton University, where I supported students facing challenges like, sports and performance anxiety, ADHD concerns, academic stress, depression, grief, and interpersonal difficulties. My work at FITA focused on promoting agency, building self-compassion and mindfulness, and helping my clients to develop the skills to stand on their own.
Outside the Therapy Room
In my free time you’ll likely find me listening to music, playing the guitar or struggling to learn the piano, playing video games on my own, with friends, or with family, campaigning in D&D and Daggerheart, watching true crime documentaries, anime, medical dramas. I also love watching hockey, cheering for my favourite teams or booing the refs for a missed call. I love being active, whether it’s running, climbing, skating on the canal, playing sports, or exercising. I hope this gives you a better idea of what it might be like to work with me and I look forward to getting the chance to know you better too!

Therapeutic Approach
I take an evidence-informed, client-centered approach to therapy. I also draw from other integrative approaches to support your goals, always tailoring the work to your needs, values, and lived experience.

Before entering the field of psychotherapy, I spent over 20 years leading groups and coaching in community-based settings, including social services and recreation. I’ve worked closely with individuals and families facing adversity—particularly those navigating addiction, economic hardship, and social isolation.
This work has shaped my deep belief in human resilience. I’ve seen firsthand how healing happens when people feel safe, heard, and supported.

You might be someone who’s already done a lot of thinking. You’ve reflected, journaled, tried to understand yourself… but somehow, you still feel stuck.
Maybe your mind doesn’t slow down. Maybe you’re constantly overanalyzing, second-guessing, or feeling like you should have things figured out by now. On the outside, you’re functioning, but internally, it feels exhausting.
I work with adults who are self-aware, thoughtful, and trying their best, but are ready for things to actually start changing, not just making sense.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in cultural awareness. I aim to create a space where you feel understood, but also gently challenged in the ways that help you grow.
How I Can Help
Together, we’ll work through life’s challenges and begin developing tools that foster relief, resilience, and personal growth. I support clients navigating concerns such as: - Anxiety, overthinking, and mental burnout - Feeling stuck despite insight or self-awareness - Low self-worth and harsh self-criticism - Identity struggles and cultural pressures - Life transitions and uncertainty - Relationship patterns and difficulty setting boundaries - Communication Challenges
I focus on helping you feel more grounded, more clear, and more in control of your thoughts and decisions.
My Approach
I believe therapy works best when it’s tailored to you. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, drawing on evidence-based approaches like: - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): to shift unhelpful thoughts and patterns - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): to help you live with more balance and resilience - Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): to build skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and effective communication Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): to highlight your strengths and create meaningful steps forward
I view therapy as an opportunity for discovery, healing, and growth. With the right support, individuals can uncover strengths, build resilience, and make meaningful changes in their lives.
Why Work With Me
A lot of the people I work with feel frustrated with themselves, like they know better, but can’t seem to do better.
That’s where our work focuses.
We’ll look at what’s keeping you stuck, build awareness around your patterns, and start creating small, meaningful shifts that actually carry into your everyday life.
You won’t be judged here, but you will be supported in growing

Who I Work With
I work with adults from diverse backgrounds who are navigating anxiety, low mood, burnout, life transitions etc.
Many of the people I work with are thoughtful and self-aware, but feel stuck in patterns they can’t seem to shift, overthinking, people-pleasing, or struggling to set boundaries in their relationships.
You might be the one others rely on, while quietly feeling overwhelmed yourself. Or you may find it hard to express your needs, second-guess your decisions, or feel disconnected from who you are and what you want.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, even if you can’t fully explain why, we can start there.
Closing Words
If you’re ready to take the next step, I offer a free 20-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit. You can also reach me directly at yocabed@themindspa.ca

I have completed my Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Prior to this, I completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Ottawa, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. At the University of Ottawa, I conducted research with the Cognition & Anxiety Disorders Research Lab to better understand how social anxiety impacts our self-evaluations and evaluations of others. I am continuing my professional development by staying up to date on research and attending cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) conferences and training seminars.
Areas of Expertise
I work with youth, adolescents and adults facing a wide range of emotional, academic, and social challenges, including: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Attention-Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder (ADHD) Self-esteem and personal empowerment Stress and anxiety management Depression and mood disorders Trauma and life transitions
Approach
My therapeutic approach blends CBT with other ‘third wave’ modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Metacognitive Therapy (MCT). I also use the Culturally Responsive and Socially Just counselling model to recognize how cultural and social factors intersect to shape each client’s unique experiences. My approach to therapy is a holistic one; we will explore both your presenting symptoms and the underlying factors that may contribute to your distress. I believe healing is supported by strong relationships, environments, and support systems. I work to help clients strengthen those connections as part of their growth.
Philosophy
As a therapist, my philosophy is rooted in deep respect for each person’s unique way of being. My goal is to implement a collaborative approach to help you build on your strengths, develop meaningful skills, and thrive as your authentic self.
