They are completing the clinical practicum portion of their academic training and are working under the close supervision of a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) - Tina Wilston RP#005661, who is in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

Therapists-in-training are not yet registered with CRPO and do not independently hold the title of "Registered Psychotherapist." As such, they do not provide psychotherapy as defined under the **Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)**. Instead, they offer counselling services that focus on emotional support, mental wellness strategies, and the development of coping skills. These services are aligned with the therapist-in-training’s level of education and clinical competence, and are always supervised to ensure ethical, safe, and effective practice.

These sessions may be suitable for clients seeking support with stress, life transitions, self-esteem, relationship challenges, and general emotional well-being. If more intensive or regulated psychotherapy services are required, clients may be referred to a registered clinician.

By booking this service, clients acknowledge and consent to receiving care from a master's-level student therapist under clinical supervision.

The Benefits of Counselling with Intern Counsellors

At MindSpa Mental Health Centre, our intern counsellors are graduate-level student therapists completing their practicum as part of a qualifying psychotherapy program. They are not yet registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and therefore practice under the direct supervision of a qualified Registered Psychotherapist.

Currently, all intern counsellors at MindSpa are supervised by **Tina Wilston, M.Ed., RP**, a licensed member of the CRPO in good standing. Supervision is an essential part of ensuring ethical, effective, and high-quality care.

Working with an intern counsellor offers several unique benefits:

More Accessible Counselling

Counselling sessions with an intern counsellor are offered at a reduced rate of **\$125 per 50-minute session**, compared to our standard rates of \$158–\$200. Additionally, a **sliding scale fee** is available for low-income clients and can be applied to sessions with intern counsellors, making therapy more financially accessible.

Energy & Up-to-Date Training

Intern counsellors bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and current knowledge from their academic training. They are immersed in the latest research and evidence-based practices, often applying these modern approaches under supervision to tailor support to your needs. Their openness and eagerness to learn contribute to a vibrant therapeutic experience.

Supervision by Experienced Professionals

Interns receive regular and structured supervision from experienced Registered Psychotherapists. This means your care is reviewed and supported by a second clinician, ensuring quality and alignment with ethical and clinical standards. Many clients appreciate knowing that their therapist has a dedicated supervisor invested in supporting their progress.

More Personalized Attention

Intern counsellors typically maintain a smaller caseload than fully registered practitioners. As a result, they have more time to reflect, plan, and personalize your care. This allows for thoughtful preparation and a highly individualized approach, enhancing the quality of the therapeutic relationship and outcomes.

Please Note

All clients working with an intern counsellor will be asked to review and sign an informed consent to treatment under supervision prior to beginning therapy. This is a CRPO requirement and an important part of understanding the therapy process.

Art Therapist-in-Training (Master’s Student, Under Clinical Supervision)

Supportive counselling is a therapeutic approach designed to provide emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance to individuals facing personal challenges. Unlike more intensive psychotherapy, it focuses on offering a safe space for individuals to explore their feelings, gain coping strategies, and receive reassurance during difficult times. This type of counselling is especially helpful for managing everyday stress, adjusting to life changes (e.g., moving, job loss, relationship difficulties), grieving a loss, improving self-esteem, or navigating mild anxiety or depression. It can also assist in enhancing communication skills, building resilience, and providing encouragement during transitions.

As an Art Therapist-in-Training currently completing graduate-level education in counselling and art therapy, I am passionate about supporting individuals through creative expression and emotional exploration. I offer counselling services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

I believe that everyone is inherently creative—no prior artistic experience is necessary to benefit from art-based approaches to wellness. By combining art-making with verbal reflection, I aim to create a warm, supportive space where thoughts and emotions can be expressed safely and meaningfully. Using a variety of art materials as tools for communication and insight, I support clients in building resilience, processing life experiences, and discovering new perspectives.

My counselling style is client-centered, rooted in empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. I work to foster a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where individuals feel seen, heard, and empowered to be themselves.

With a background in teaching and psychology, I tailor my approach to suit the developmental needs of children and teens, using creative, age-appropriate interventions. In my work with adults, I offer support for those navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and relational challenges.

I am honoured to walk alongside clients on their journeys of healing, growth, and self-discovery, and I look forward to offering a space that feels both creative and grounded in support.

Please note: The clinician is not a member of the CRPO and does not independently practice psychotherapy as defined by Ontario’s Regulated Health Professions Act. All services are provided under the supervision of a Registered Psychotherapist.

🌿 Your Partner in Growth and Healing

Hi, I’m Andy. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and psychotherapy intern, currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University. I provide therapy under the supervision of a Registered Psychotherapist, as required by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

My goal is to offer a supportive, caring, and collaborative space where you can explore your experiences, build resilience, and create meaningful change. I work with individuals navigating a range of life challenges, and I bring warmth, curiosity, and respect to every therapeutic relationship.

Therapeutic Approach

I take an evidence-informed, client-centered approach to therapy. My work is grounded in Narrative Therapy, which is based on the idea that the stories we tell about ourselves shape how we understand our lives—and what’s possible moving forward. Together, we’ll explore your stories, perspectives, and strengths, identifying opportunities to shift your narrative in a way that supports growth and healing.

I also draw from other integrative approaches to support your goals, always tailoring the work to your needs, values, and lived experience.

Professional Background

Before entering the field of psychotherapy, I spent over 20 years leading groups and coaching in community-based settings, including social services and recreation. I’ve worked closely with individuals and families facing adversity—particularly those navigating addiction, economic hardship, and social isolation.

This work has shaped my deep belief in human resilience. I’ve seen firsthand how healing happens when people feel safe, heard, and supported.

Who I Work With

I support adult individuals (18+) who may be:

  • Facing stress, anxiety, or life transitions
  • Coping with addiction or recovery-related challenges
  • Struggling with self-esteem or negative self-beliefs
  • Seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships
  • Looking to reframe life narratives in a safe and empowering space

A Little About Me

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a father, partner, and nature enthusiast. I enjoy hockey, swimming, gardening, and taking care of my chickens. I find joy in simplicity and believe that healing and growth can often be found in small, consistent steps.

Let’s Connect

If you’re seeking a grounded, compassionate therapist who will walk alongside you on your journey, I’d be honoured to work with you.
